Palakkad, March 26 : After 700 years, a rare ‘Maha Kubera Yagam’ aiming to regain global economic peace and bestow each person with wealth and happiness will be performed at a temple in Palghat district of Kerala from April 17 to 23. All measures have been taken to ensure the authenticity of rituals at the Yagam, the organisers said on Saturday. Renowned Vaidik Cherumukku Vallabhan Akkithiripad, who has performed both ‘Soma Yaga’ and ‘Athirathram’, will lead the Maha Kubera Yagam. The Yagam appears as a beacon of hope for people across continents, said Jithin Jayakrishnan, Managing Trustee, Kubera Temple at Chalavara. According to mythology, the first KuberaYagam was conducted by Kubera. The legend says that after being expelled from Sri Lanka, the island city he built, Kubera administered the Yagam on the banks of river Saraswathi. It is believed that Lord Mahadeva blessed Kubera with a town called Alakapuri and crowned him as Yaksharaja (celestial spirits) and made him the custodian of all the riches. The seven-day Yagam will be performed in 10.5 acres of land named “Kuberapuri” where hundreds of priests from across India will assemble. Kubera Temple, the only temple in Kerala where the Lord of Riches is worshipped, is located 10 km away from Shoranur. DS MR
