Kieron Pollard Appointed Head Coach of Mumbai Indians

Mumbai, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : Mumbai Indians (MI) have announced the appointment of former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard as their new head coach. The franchise made the announcement on their official social media channels on Saturday. Pollard has been an integral part of the team for the past 16 years.

Pollard joined Mumbai Indians in 2010 at the age of 22. He played a pivotal role in leading the franchise to five championship titles, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. Until 2022, he remained with the team as a player before retiring from the league that same season. Following his retirement, he was appointed as the batting coach. After serving in that role for the past four seasons, the franchise has now elevated him to the position of head coach, reflecting the management’s trust in his capabilities.

Upon his appointment, Pollard expressed his gratitude, stating, “It is an honor to take on the role of head coach for Mumbai Indians. MI has been a significant part of my life and career. The bond I share with this team, its players, and the fan base means a lot to me. Having experienced this journey as both a player and a coach, I understand what Mumbai Indians stand for and the responsibilities that come with representing the blue and gold. I am thankful to Nita Ambani, Akash Ambani, and the entire MI family for their confidence in me.”

Pollard also mentioned his eagerness to collaborate with players and support staff to further the team’s legacy, nurture talent, and create more reasons for celebration among fans.

Nita Ambani, co-owner of Mumbai Indians, praised Pollard’s journey, noting, “He joined us at 22 and has become an essential part of our family over the last sixteen years. As a player, he gave us countless memorable moments, and as a coach, he continues to share his experience, passion, and deep understanding of the game. We are delighted to see him take on this new responsibility as head coach. He knows what it means to wear the MI jersey and what it takes to play for the team. I am confident he will bring the same commitment, belief, and determination to this role. I wish him every success in leading the team into its next chapter.”

Kieron Pollard is recognized as one of the most successful T20 batsmen in history, having scored 14,999 runs in 671 innings across 754 matches, with a strike rate above 150. He has also taken 341 wickets. Currently, he remains active as a player in other leagues.

As head coach, Pollard’s objective will be to secure a sixth IPL title for Mumbai Indians, who last claimed the championship in 2020.
