Bhopal, Apr 12 : A first information report was registered on Tuesday against Rajya Sabha Member Digvijaya Singh by the city police’s Crime Branch on charges including that of fanning religious frenzy. In the wake of communal disturbances in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district, erstwhile chief minister Singh made certain remarks in social media accompanied by a photograph depicting some saffron-clad individuals – armed with stabbing weapons – foisting a banner of that colour on a place of worship belonging to a certain minority comm ty. Congress leader Singh later deleted the photograph. The FIR was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by local-resident Prakash Pande who alleged that the picture in question was actually of an incident in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district. Madhya Pradesh’s principal-opposition Congress is being tightlipped over the issue. Earlier, state Home Minister and government spokesman Narottam Mishra told the press here, “Be it the terrorists arrested in Bhopal and Ratlam or the Khargone rioters, they are all ‘sleeper cells’ of the Tukde Tukde Gang. In excess of 90 arrests have been executed thus far in connection with the Khargone incidents.” PKJ-AC
