Kerala High Court Clears Path for The Kerala Story 2 Release, Lifts Interim Ban

Kochi, February 27: The Kerala High Court has lifted the interim ban on the release of ‘The Kerala Story 2 – Go Beyond.’ This decision, made by a division bench on Friday, paves the way for the film’s screening.

The bench, consisting of Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice P.V. Balakrishnan, annulled a previous order from a single bench that had imposed a 15-day halt on the film’s release.

After hearing arguments from producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who appealed against the single judge’s interim order, the bench remarked that the objections to the film’s certification resembled a public interest litigation. They questioned how a single judge could adjudicate such matters.

The order was delivered following extensive arguments from all parties late Thursday night, emphasizing the urgency and high stakes involved.

Producers approached the division bench just hours after the single bench’s interim order, arguing that the suspension issued a day before the release would lead to significant financial losses and disrupt distribution plans nationwide. The film was scheduled to release on Friday.

The controversy surrounding the film has reignited debates in political and social circles, reminiscent of intense discussions from its predecessor.

Petitioners opposing the release cited concerns over the film’s content and sought judicial intervention. Conversely, the filmmakers asserted that their work falls within the realm of legally protected creative expression.

With the stay lifted, theater owners and distributors are now expected to proceed with screenings as planned.

Industry experts suggest that the legal battle may have heightened public interest, potentially impacting box office prospects in the coming days.
