New Delhi, August 30: Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan provided a significant update on the sudden floods in Nepal. He announced that a 14-member team from Kochi, including Shruti Shikhamani (Kakkanad) and Rineet Mohan (Piravom), has safely returned home.
In a post on the social media platform X, Chief Minister Satheesan confirmed that 45 travelers at transit points between Nepal and India are safe, and arrangements for their return are underway.
However, contact is still pending with seven individuals, including four Australian citizens of Kerala origin. The Ministry of External Affairs is actively coordinating to gather information about them.
Under the directives of the Kerala Chief Minister’s office, Norka Roots and the NRK Development Office in New Delhi are working to arrange transit and return travel for all incoming individuals.
Meanwhile, amid continuous heavy rainfall and worsening conditions in Nepal, 114 Indians have been safely rescued. The Nepalese government reported on Saturday that relief and rescue operations are ongoing in disaster-affected areas.
The Nepal Tourism Board has released a list indicating that a total of 187 people from 15 countries have been rescued, as shared on the social media platform X. Apart from India, the list includes citizens from Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, China, Italy, Malta, Oman, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States. Notably, 114 of the rescued individuals are from India, followed by 27 from China and 20 from South Korea.
The floods and related incidents have significantly impacted daily life in several areas. Increased river levels, disrupted road connectivity, and landslides have necessitated efforts to relocate people to safer locations.
The rescued Indian citizens have been moved to safe areas. A large number of Indian tourists, pilgrims, businesspeople, and other citizens regularly travel to and from Nepal, making their safety a crucial concern for both countries during this flood situation.
