Essential Guidelines for Women Observing Karwa Chauth, According to Pandit Shipra Sachdev
Renowned astrologer Pandit Shipra Sachdev shares vital tips for women observing Karwa Chauth, emphasizing rituals and precautions.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : Karwa Chauth is a significant festival for married women, celebrated with great enthusiasm. However, certain rules and precautions must be followed, as explained by renowned astrologer Pandit Shipra Sachdev.
According to Pandit Sachdev, women observe this fast for the long life and happiness of their husbands. The fast is typically kept without water and holds considerable religious importance. It begins with the consumption of ‘sargi’ before sunrise, while the stars are still visible in the sky. Women take a vow to observe the fast throughout the day and break it at night after offering prayers to the moon.
Pandit Sachdev highlighted some critical guidelines for those participating in the fast. Women should avoid activities involving cutting or sewing on this day, refraining from using knives, scissors, and needles. Additionally, crossing rivers should be avoided until the fast is completed.
The worship of Goddess Gauri during the ‘pradosh kaal’ is particularly significant. During this time, the form of Goddess Gauri is installed for the rituals. In many regions, groups of ten married women gather to listen to the story of Karwa Mata and perform the puja, which is considered highly auspicious. The fast concludes with the moon’s worship.
An important tradition associated with Karwa Chauth is the ‘baina’ ceremony, which involves circling a plate containing a pot, fruits, nuts, and other offerings. This plate is presented to the mother-in-law or another elder married woman in the family, and it is not meant for personal consumption.
These guidelines and rituals ensure that the observance of Karwa Chauth is both meaningful and auspicious for married women.
