Varanasi, March 16: Renowned playback singer, musician, and devotee of Lord Shiva, Kailash Kher, visited the Baba Kalbhairav Temple in Varanasi on Monday. Upon arrival, he bowed his head in reverence at the temple dedicated to Kashi’s guardian, Baba Kalbhairav, seeking blessings.
During the worship ceremony, Kher performed his famous Shiva hymn ‘Bam Bam Lahiri,’ dedicating it to the deity. He was seen standing with sandalwood on his forehead, flowers around his neck, and a rudraksha garland, holding a basket of flowers. The atmosphere in the temple was vibrant, with devotees expressing immense enthusiasm and devotion.
The Baba Kalbhairav Temple is an ancient shrine dedicated to the fierce form of Lord Shiva, known as Kalbhairav, who is revered as the ‘Guardian of Kashi.’ It is believed that devotees must seek Kalbhairav’s permission before visiting one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, including Baba Vishwanath, or their pilgrimage is considered incomplete.
A unique feature of this temple is the offering of alcohol as prasad, and it is believed to date back to the 17th century, making it one of the oldest temples in the country. Every year, millions of devotees flock to this sacred site to pay their respects.
Kailash Kher is one of India’s leading and beloved singers, known for his powerful voice and contributions to Sufi and folk music. He has lent his remarkable voice to over 300 songs in Bollywood.
Some of his notable Hindi tracks include ‘Allah Ke Bande,’ ‘Sainya,’ ‘Teri Diwani,’ ‘Ya Rabba,’ ‘Piya Ghar Aavenge,’ ‘Chand Sifarish,’ ‘Yoon Hi Chala Chal,’ and ‘Tauba Tauba.’ In recognition of his exceptional singing, he was honored with the Padma Shri award in 2017.
Apart from Bollywood songs, Kailash Kher is also quite popular for his numerous Shiva hymns and praises, including ‘Shiv Shambho,’ ‘Bam Bam Lahiri,’ ‘Adiyogi,’ ‘Shivoham,’ ‘Anadi Ananta,’ ‘Jai Jai Kedara,’ ‘Karpur Gauram,’ ‘Mahamatryunjaya Mantra,’ and ‘Kaun Hai Wo Kahan Se Aaya.’
