Justice Ravindra Vitthalrao Ghuge Sworn in as Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court

Kolkata, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Justice Ravindra Vitthalrao Ghuge has officially taken his oath as the 45th Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. The ceremony took place on September 9, 2026, in the historic Court Room Number 1.

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari attended the event, which marked a significant moment for the judiciary in the state. Following the constitutional protocol outlined in Article 219 of the Indian Constitution, West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office to Justice Ghuge.

The ceremony commenced with the reading of the appointment warrant issued by President Droupadi Murmu. Justice Ghuge then took an oath of allegiance to the Constitution, concluding the event with formal signatures, the national anthem, and the national song.

In attendance were notable figures including the Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly, Rathindra Bose, current and retired judges of the Calcutta High Court, members of the bar, the Advocate General, the Chief Secretary, and other senior dignitaries from the judiciary.

After the oath-taking, Chief Minister Adhikari congratulated the newly appointed Chief Justice. As a gesture of goodwill and respect on behalf of the people of West Bengal, he presented Justice Ghuge with a bouquet and a framed picture of Swami Vivekananda.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Adhikari expressed his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Justice Ghuge, emphasizing his hope that the new Chief Justice would strengthen the rule of law, uphold constitutional values, and ensure swift and fair justice for all citizens of the state.
