Bhopal, May 10: The Madhya Pradesh government has established a judicial commission to investigate the recent cruise accident at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur. This commission is expected to provide a detailed report within three months.
The General Administration Department of Madhya Pradesh issued a letter on Sunday regarding the investigation into the unfortunate incident that resulted in loss of life during the cruise accident at Bargi Dam. A single-member inquiry commission has been formed, headed by retired Justice Sanjay Dwivedi of the High Court.
According to the Additional Secretary of the General Administration Department, the judicial commission will conduct a thorough investigation into the Bargi cruise accident. This includes examining the causes of the accident and determining accountability. The adequacy of rescue measures during and after the incident will also be reviewed, along with an audit of all boats, cruises, and water sports activities operating in the state. The commission will ensure compliance with the Inland Vessels Act, 2021, and the NDMA Boat Safety Guidelines, 2017, for the certification of watercraft.
Additionally, the commission will investigate the need for a standardized operating procedure (SOP) for the operation and maintenance of cruises, boats, and water sports activities in the state. There will also be arrangements for the formation of rapid response teams at all locations where civil water transport, boating, and water sports activities are conducted.
The commission is required to complete its investigation and submit its report to the state government within three months from the date of publication of this notification in the Madhya Pradesh Gazette.
It is noteworthy that a cruise accident occurred at Bargi Dam on April 30, resulting in the tragic loss of 13 lives. The Mohan Yadav government has taken this matter seriously, forming a state-level investigation team that is expected to submit its report within 15 days.
Following directives from the Madhya Pradesh government, the pace of the investigation has accelerated, with officials in Jabalpur currently recording statements from those involved in the incident. Reports indicate that a team of administrative officials is gathering statements from cruise operation staff and other witnesses present at the scene.
