Jharkhands Student Leader Declares First Victory in Recruitment Exam Protests

Ranchi, August 18: Devendra Nath Mahto, a prominent student leader, has hailed the cancellation of 14 recruitment exams, including those conducted by JSSC-CGL and TDPCL, as a significant victory for the protesting students in Jharkhand. He emphasized that this cancellation is not the end of their struggle and vowed to continue the movement until comprehensive reforms are implemented in the recruitment process.

In a media interaction on Tuesday, Mahto stated that the decision to annul the exams, which faced allegations of irregularities and fraud, is the outcome of students’ prolonged efforts. He clarified that the movement’s goal extends beyond the cancellation of a single exam; it aims to eradicate corruption and ensure transparency in the entire recruitment and examination system in Jharkhand.

Mahto asserted that the government must now guarantee an examination framework that prevents future incidents of paper leaks, question paper tampering, or any form of malpractice. He called for an audit of every stage of competitive exams and accountability from the organizing agencies and relevant officials.

Reflecting on the students’ long struggle, Mahto noted that the movement, which began on July 2, has gradually gained momentum. A satyagraha commenced on July 25 from Bapu Vatika in Morhabadi, with Jaypal Singh Munda Stadium later becoming the main hub for the protests. Since August 2, students have also engaged in an indefinite hunger strike.

He emphasized that their fight is not just for the current candidates but aims to establish an examination system that prevents future generations from having to take to the streets for their rights. Mahto urged candidates who have been preparing honestly for years to remain patient.

He concluded by stating that while the government’s decision can be viewed as the first success of the movement, the focus will now shift towards ensuring extensive reforms in the examination system and complete transparency in future recruitment exams.
