Ranchi, August 4: The Jharkhand High Court has raised concerns regarding the normalization process employed by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) in the Assistant Professor appointment examination (Advertisement No. 13/2023).
The court has directed the commission to submit a detailed affidavit clarifying how candidates who took the exam under similar conditions and received identical raw scores could end up with different normalized scores. Additionally, the court inquired about the basis on which the final normalized scores were determined for candidates with varying raw scores. The hearing took place on Tuesday in the court of Justice Deepak Roshan.
This case pertains to petitions filed by Giridhar Prasad and other candidates questioning the transparency and validity of the JSSC’s normalization process. During the hearing, the petitioners argued that the normalization system adopted by the commission lacks transparency.
For instance, it was pointed out that two candidates who scored 69 in the same sitting had their normalized scores displayed as 17 and 34, respectively. The court questioned the commission on the rationale behind such discrepancies in results for candidates with the same conditions and scores. The court also sought clarification on whether candidates with different raw scores could have the same final normalized score after the normalization process.
The court has requested a detailed explanation from the commission on these two points. The High Court has instructed the JSSC to file a comprehensive affidavit regarding this matter, with the next hearing scheduled for August 6, 2026.
Senior advocates Ajit Kumar, Amritansh Vats, Shubham Mishra, and Prem Pujari Rai represented the petitioners, while advocate Sanjay Piparwal presented the commission’s case in court.
