Jharkhand Government Has No Choice but to Follow Supreme Court on MMDR Act: Pratul Shahdev

Ranchi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : BJP leader Pratul Shahdev addressed the implications of the MMDR Act and the goal of making Jharkhand Naxal-free within three months. Speaking in Ranchi, he stated that the nation operates under the Constitution, laws, and the Supreme Court‘s directives. He emphasized that major minerals fall under the central government’s jurisdiction. According to Shahdev, the Supreme Court clearly indicated that once the central government or legislature enacts a law, the state government’s rights over it cease.

Shahdev criticized the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), claiming they are upset over revenue loss rather than the law itself. He pointed out that the MMDR Act includes stringent measures against illegal mining, which has led to the establishment of a parallel economy in Jharkhand. This illegal mining has become institutionalized, and he urged the state government to recognize that they have no alternative but to adhere to the law. If they seek options, he suggested, they should approach the Supreme Court.

On the target to eradicate Naxalism in Jharkhand by March 31, Shahdev credited Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their leadership in this initiative. He noted that areas like Dantewada and Bastar have achieved peace, and the Jharkhand police are taking steps to neutralize remaining Naxalite commanders, a move he welcomed.

Regarding the JSSC CGL exam, Shahdev expressed concern over allegations of paper leaks. He mentioned that the state government initially denied such claims but later ordered a CID investigation due to student protests. Initially, the CID reported no evidence of a leak, but after a year and a half, they reversed their stance, acknowledging a significant paper leak issue. Shahdev lamented that this has shattered the dreams of countless students.
