Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Team Makes History by Winning Ranji Trophy

Srinagar, February 28: The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team has made history. They have claimed the Ranji Trophy title for the first time by defeating eight-time champions Karnataka in the final.

The victory has sparked celebrations across the state. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated the team on their remarkable achievement.

In a celebratory video posted on X, Omar Abdullah expressed his pride, stating, “You did it, well done Jammu and Kashmir.”

In the match held at the D.R. Bendre Cricket Stadium in Hubli, Jammu and Kashmir won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored an impressive 584 runs in their first innings, thanks to significant contributions from Shubham Pundir (121 runs), Yaver Hasan Khan (88), Sahil Lotra (72), Kanhaiya Wadawan (70), and captain Paras Dogra (70).

Karnataka’s first innings ended at 293 runs, with captain Mayank Agarwal scoring a commendable 160. However, no other batsman managed to make a significant impact.

For Jammu and Kashmir, Aaqib Nabi took five wickets, while Sunil Kumar and Yudveer Singh claimed two wickets each, and Sahil Lotra took one.

After establishing a substantial lead of 291 runs, Jammu and Kashmir faced early setbacks in their second innings, losing two wickets for just 11 runs. However, they made a strong comeback, declaring their second innings at 342 runs for four wickets. Opener Kamran Iqbal scored 160 runs, and Sahil Lotra remained unbeaten at 101, forming an unbroken partnership of 197 runs. The declaration came soon after Sahil completed his century.

The match was declared a draw, and based on their first-innings lead, Jammu and Kashmir was crowned the champion. Shubham Pundir was named Player of the Match, while Aaqib Nabi received the Player of the Tournament award.
