Jaishankar Engages in Talks with Indonesian Counterpart on West Asia Conflicts

New Delhi, March 13: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a telephone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi, on Thursday. The discussion centered on the ongoing conflicts in West Asia and the bilateral relations between the two nations.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in speaking with Indonesia’s Foreign Minister. He noted, “I had a fruitful discussion with FM Retno Marsudi. We shared perspectives on the West Asia conflict, discussed our bilateral relations, and agreed to convene a joint commission meeting soon.”

This conversation took place amid ongoing tensions in West Asia. On February 28, in response to joint US-Israel strikes, Iran launched drone and missile attacks targeting US assets, regional capitals, and allied forces in the region.

In recent days, Jaishankar has also engaged with counterparts from several countries, including Russia, Iran, France, and Oman, as India seeks to maintain contact with relevant governments and key partners amid a tense security situation in the region.

On Wednesday, Jaishankar spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, where they discussed the West Asia conflict and the expansion of bilateral relations. He stated on ‘X’, “I had a productive phone conversation with Sergey Lavrov. We shared insights on the West Asia conflict and related diplomatic efforts, and reviewed our bilateral cooperation agenda.”

Jaishankar also discussed the West Asia conflict and its implications with the European Union’s High Representative, Josep Borrell. Following their conversation, he tweeted, “I had a useful discussion with EU HRVP Josep Borrell regarding the West Asia conflict and its consequences.”

Additionally, Jaishankar engaged with his French counterpart, Jean-Yves Le Drian, on the current security situation in West Asia. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share perspectives on the conflict and looks forward to continuing the dialogue.

India continues to advocate for de-escalation, restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy while prioritizing the safety of Indian citizens and the uninterrupted supply of energy in the region.

On Tuesday, Jaishankar had an extensive telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, discussing the latest developments in the ongoing West Asia conflict. He noted on ‘X’, “I had a detailed conversation with Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian this evening. We agreed to stay in touch.”

Moreover, he discussed bilateral relations and the current situation in West Asia with South Korean counterpart Park Jin, as well as shared views on the ongoing conflict with German counterpart Annalena Baerbock.
