Jahangirpuri violence: 14 arrested by Delhi Police

New Delhi, April 17 : Fourteen people, including the accused who allegedly opened fire, have been arrested in connection with Jahangirpuri violence. The pistol used in the crime has also been recovered from his possession, police said on Sunday. On Saturday, violence broke out between two groups in North West Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area during the Hanuman Jayanti procession. Several people, including eight police personnel, got injured in stone pelting. They were shifted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial (BJRM) hospital. A case was registered the same day under Sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 332, 323, 427, 436, 307, 120B of IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act at Jahangirpuri Police Station, said Delhi Police. During the probe, the person who opened fire, was identified as Md Aslam alias Khodu alias Aslam Ali (21), resident of CD Park jhuggi, who was previously involved in a case in 2020. A senior police official said that a total of nine persons, including eight police personnel, were injured and treated in BJRM hospital. One Sub-Inspector sustained bullet injury, and is now stable. Further investigation was underway. Heavy security personnel have been deployed in the area, who were trying to pacify the people to maintain peace. Now, the situation is under control. On Saturday, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana took to Twitter to comment on the situation. “The situation is completely under control in the incident in North West district. Adequate numbers of additional police force have been deployed in Jahangirpuri and other sensitive areas. Higher police officers have been instructed to do intensive patrolling in the area and keep a constant vigil on the situation. “Strict action will be taken against any attempt to disturb law and order.
