Bhubaneswar, August 3: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Monday that the inauguration of Jagadguru Kripalu University in Banra marks a significant step towards establishing the state as a global hub for higher education, research, and character development. He described it as a new fusion of modern science and Indian values.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu, the Chief Minister emphasized that this institution is not merely an academic center but the beginning of creating a world-class education and research ecosystem in Odisha. He welcomed the President, noting that her presence has inspired and invigorated the people of the state.
In tribute to Jagadguru Kripalu Maharaj, the Chief Minister hailed him as a transformative spiritual leader of the modern era. He stated that Maharaj spread the message of Vedic knowledge and love-devotion across the globe. This university, established in his memory, aims to connect India’s rich spiritual heritage with modern science and technology.
Majhi revealed that the university will offer contemporary courses in Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Computer Science, Management, and Health Sciences. Additionally, Centers of Excellence will be created for Mind Management, Human Values, and Yoga Science. These centers will focus on students’ mental well-being, character development, and nurturing hidden talents.
He also mentioned that the university will engage in social service through the Jagadguru Kripalu Clinic and a Yoga-Natural Therapy Hospital. Vocational skill training programs will be conducted for rural youth and women.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Odisha’s youth are contributing to research and innovation in collaboration with institutions like IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS. He remarked that today’s era is about skills and capabilities, and the state government is committed to creating more opportunities for the youth.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Gen-Z’ dialogue, Majhi noted that the Prime Minister appealed to youth for a drug-free life, with over a million young people participating nationwide. He stated that the new education policy and the expansion of medical and engineering institutions will enhance the quality of education.
Majhi added that Odisha is moving beyond minerals and steel to promote investment in 16 new sectors, including IT, semiconductors, textiles, and petrochemicals. The state has become the first in the country to offer free education up to KG and PG levels. Four more universities are set to be established in the coming days, and an ITI is being developed as a ‘Center of Excellence’ with Singapore’s collaboration.
