Jerusalem, August 5: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made it clear that the Israeli army will not withdraw from its positions in Gaza until Hamas completely disarms.
In a video released on social media, Netanyahu stated, “We have instructed our soldiers to do whatever is necessary to ensure the safety of our citizens.”
On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his “Peace Board” has drafted an agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza.
In response, Netanyahu mentioned that the White House had sent them a draft, but they did not agree to it, asserting, “This is not our draft. We have submitted our suggestions.”
Just a day after Trump’s announcement, Hamas stated that it had agreed to a new version of the roadmap for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. However, it also laid down conditions.
Hamas insists that any decision regarding disarmament will only occur if attacks cease entirely, Israel withdraws its forces from Gaza, and progress is made in the region’s reconstruction.
Meanwhile, last week, several people, including children and civilians, were killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza. Following this, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey issued a joint statement condemning the violence. These three countries are mediating the ceasefire talks in Gaza.
According to senior officials, under a new international roadmap, Hamas is prepared to relinquish both its civilian and military governance in Gaza. This plan would transfer responsibility to a temporary Palestinian administration.
Trump’s Gaza peace initiative is not limited to a ceasefire; it includes a comprehensive plan to dismantle Hamas’s governance. A national committee will be established to oversee Gaza’s administration, which will be an independent Palestinian entity managing civilian affairs and internal security during the transition.
The document states that all civil and security responsibilities will be assigned to this national committee, which will also oversee public institutions, essential services, and law enforcement. Before commencing reconstruction, the committee will conduct a complete audit of Gaza’s financial and administrative matters.
