New Delhi, March 8: Amid ongoing tensions with Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israeli soldiers embarked on a special operation on Friday night. This mission is aimed at locating a soldier who has been missing for 40 years.
Netanyahu shared on the social media platform X that “our brave warriors set out last night on a special mission to find and bring home Ron Arad, who was captured in Lebanon nearly 40 years ago.”
He emphasized that the nation has tirelessly pursued this goal for many years.
Reports indicate that the operation was conducted in Lebanon, where Israeli forces reportedly excavated a cemetery in Nabi Chit. The objective was to recover the remains of Israeli Air Force pilot Ron Arad, who went missing after his plane crashed during a mission in 1986.
The Israeli army has been searching for Arad’s remains in a cemetery in eastern Lebanon. However, it remains unclear whether the soldiers were successful in their efforts.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the operation was based on evacuation orders issued in Nabi Chit and additional intelligence gathered amid ongoing clashes with Hezbollah.
The military reiterated its commitment to bringing back all fallen and missing soldiers, vowing to continue its relentless efforts. Notably, the IDF reported no casualties among its troops during the operation, and there was no gunfire reported.
However, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that 16 people were killed and 35 others injured due to Israeli attacks.
