Tehran, May 7: Iranian President Masoud Pajeshkian has announced that his country is ready to pursue diplomatic avenues to end the war with the United States and Israel. He emphasized the importance of safeguarding Iran’s rights during these discussions.
According to the Iranian president’s office, Pajeshkian expressed skepticism towards the United States during a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday (local time). He referenced recent hostile actions, including two attacks on Iran during bilateral talks, describing these actions as a betrayal by the U.S.
As reported by the Xinhua News Agency, this phone call occurred amid reports from Axios that the U.S. and Iran are working on a one-page memo to conclude hostilities. The potential deal would involve Iran agreeing to halt nuclear enrichment in exchange for the lifting of U.S. sanctions. Under this agreement, both parties would also lift transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Following 40 days of conflict, a two-week ceasefire was established on April 8. This fighting began on February 28 with attacks from the U.S. and Israel. After the ceasefire, peace talks were held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 11 and 12, but no resolution was reached.
In recent weeks, both sides have shared several proposed plans to end the conflict, with Iran currently reviewing the latest proposal. Additionally, Iran stated that it has not exchanged any new written messages with the U.S.
The semi-official Fars News Agency dismissed recent media reports as fabricated, claiming they were designed to influence global markets and lower oil prices rather than reflect the actual situation on the ground.
