Tehran, April 5: Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, has condemned the recent US-Israeli attacks near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, warning of perilous repercussions for the West Asia region.
Earlier, Tehran confirmed that a projectile fell near Iran’s only operational nuclear power facility on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of a security personnel and damage to a building on site. According to Xinhua news agency, this marks the fourth such attack since the escalation of conflict between the US-Israel alliance and Iran.
In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi stated, “The US-Israel coalition has bombed our Bushehr plant four times now. The radioactive fallout will end lives in the GCC capitals, not in Tehran.”
As reported by Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, the strike did not disrupt operations at the plant, as its main components remain intact.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) indicated that there was no increase in radiation levels following the attack. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that nuclear power facilities and their surroundings should “never be attacked.” He called for increased military oversight to prevent potential nuclear accidents.
Tasnim News Agency also reported that at least five people were injured in US-Israeli attacks on several petrochemical companies in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province.
Araghchi asserted that Tehran seeks to ensure the “definitive and permanent” end to the American and Israeli conflict imposed on Iran.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted an Israeli-linked ship with a drone, igniting a fire onboard. In a statement on its official news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC confirmed that its forces targeted a commercial vessel owned by Israel at a port in Bahrain.
This incident occurred amid heightened regional tensions following the US-Israeli joint airstrikes on Iran that began on February 28. In response, Iran and its regional allies have launched attacks on Israeli and American assets and bases throughout the Middle East.
