Tehran, March 23: Amid ongoing attacks from the United States and Israel, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for navigation. However, it emphasized that necessary measures are being implemented due to the war-like conditions in the region.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that Iran has always respected the freedom of navigation, maritime security, and rescue operations. The country has worked diligently to uphold these principles over the years.
The ministry noted that the military assaults from the U.S. and Israel have created a precarious situation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, directly impacting regional maritime safety and security.
Claiming its legal right to self-defense, Iran announced that it has targeted U.S. military bases and facilities in the region. Additionally, it has taken several steps to ensure that aggressors and their supporting nations cannot misuse the Strait to achieve their objectives against Iran.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it has blocked the passage of vessels associated with the aggressors under established principles of international law. It stated that non-hostile ships from other countries can safely navigate the Strait in coordination with Iranian authorities, provided they do not participate in or support aggressive actions against Iran and adhere to the specified safety and security regulations.
The ministry stressed that restoring permanent security and stability in the Strait requires an end to anti-Iranian military attacks and threats, cessation of destabilizing activities by the U.S. and Israel, and full respect for Iran’s legitimate interests.
It is noteworthy that on February 28, Israel and the U.S. launched attacks on several Iranian cities, including Tehran, resulting in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several military officials. Iran retaliated by targeting U.S. bases in various Gulf countries. The conflict between Iran and the U.S. and Israel continues.
