New Delhi, August 14: Home Minister Amit Shah announced the successful extradition of international drug trafficker Virender Singh Basoya from the UAE to India.
In a post on X, Shah stated, “The central government is consistently tracking drug traffickers hiding abroad and adopting a strict approach to dismantle their entire network. Setting a new milestone in our ‘zero tolerance’ policy against narcotics, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has successfully brought back the fugitive Virender Singh Basoya from the United Arab Emirates. Our agencies have once again proven that drug traffickers cannot escape the grasp of Indian law, no matter where they hide.”
In October 2025, following the bust of a ₹5,600 crore drug racket in Delhi, police issued a lookout circular against mastermind Virender Basoya, who was operating his drug business from abroad.
Delhi police had previously uncovered an international drug trafficking gang in Mahipalpur, seizing 562 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana. Investigations revealed that the cocaine shipment was sent by Basoya. Another accused, Tushar Goyal, who is believed to be close to Basoya, was arrested in connection with the case. Basoya’s name also surfaced in a 2023 case where Pune police seized drugs worth ₹3,000 crore.
In 2024, a Red Corner Notice was issued against Basoya’s son, Rishabh Basoya, in a ₹13,000 crore drug case in Delhi. Rishabh is a resident of Pilanji village in Delhi.
Police claimed that the drugs were sent by Virender Basoya from abroad. They arrested another suspect from Ajnala, Punjab, whose SUV contained drugs. Investigations revealed that this vehicle belonged to Rishabh Basoya, who had handed it over to the suspect. Following this revelation, Rishabh also fled abroad.
