Livorno, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Navy’s vessel, INS Sudarshini, has departed from Livorno, Italy, embarking on its next maritime journey. Previously, the ship was docked at the Italian port for a series of professional engagements.
INS Sudarshini is a traditional sailing ship, participating in the ‘Lokayan 2026′ initiative, which involves visits to various countries. This esteemed vessel serves purposes such as training, maritime awareness, and international goodwill missions.
Currently, it is part of the global maritime campaign, aimed at promoting India’s maritime heritage, culture, and naval traditions across different ports worldwide. During its stay in Livorno, several professional activities took place aboard the ship.
Admiral Giuseppe Beruttti Borgotto, the head of the Italian Navy, visited the ship and engaged with the crew and trainee sailors, receiving updates on the vessel’s journey and training activities.
The commanding officer of INS Sudarshini also met with Rear Admiral Alberto Tarabotto, the commandant of the Italian Naval Academy. They exchanged experiences related to maritime operations. Discussions were held with Livorno’s Mayor Luca Salvetti and Deputy Prefect Edoardo Lombardi.
As part of the training activities, Indian trainee sailors visited the Italian naval vessel ITS Virginio Fasan and the Italian Naval Academy. Meanwhile, Italian naval personnel toured INS Sudarshini, allowing both nations’ sailors to understand each other’s training and operational methodologies.
A welcome ceremony was held aboard Sudarshini, attended by senior Italian naval officials, local administration representatives, diplomatic delegates, and other distinguished guests.
After departing Livorno, INS Sudarshini will continue its journey as part of the Lokayan 2026 campaign. This initiative not only strengthens maritime friendship and cooperation between India and Italy but also promotes a spirit of oceanic unity.
As it sails onward, INS Sudarshini will carry forward the message of enhancing maritime partnerships and fostering mutual progress in security and development across oceanic regions.
