Madrid, March 3: Real Madrid has released a medical report regarding striker Kylian Mbappé. The report indicates that the French international has sustained a sprain in his left knee. This announcement came after Mbappé missed the UEFA Champions League match against Benfica, which Real Madrid won 2-1 at home.
The report was issued just before the La Liga home match against Getafe, where he was also sidelined.
Real Madrid stated that Mbappé underwent examination by French specialists under the supervision of the club’s medical staff, confirming the left knee sprain. However, the club did not provide a timeline for his return, only mentioning that it depends on his recovery progress. Mbappé has been struggling with this knee injury for nearly three months, continuing to play despite the pain. Recently, he had to make the decision to rest during matches.
So far this season, Mbappé has scored 38 goals in 33 matches for Real Madrid and eight goals for France. He trails Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, who leads Europe’s top leagues with 60 goals this season. Mbappé has netted 23 goals in La Liga and 13 in the Champions League. His availability for the upcoming league match against Celta Vigo and the two-legged Champions League tie against Manchester City remains uncertain.
Real Madrid will face Manchester City in the Champions League Round of 16. The first leg is scheduled for March 10 or 11 at the Bernabéu Stadium, while the second leg will take place on March 17 or 18 at the Etihad Stadium. The semifinals are set for April 28 or 29 and May 5 or 6, with the final on May 30 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
