New Delhi, August 2 (H.S.) — Budget airline IndiGo has placed a passenger on its no-fly list indefinitely after he slapped a fellow traveller aboard a Mumbai-to-Kolkata flight. In an official statement posted on ‘X’ on Saturday, IndiGo said, “Following a proper investigation, we have formally reported the incident involving the unruly passenger to the concerned authorities for necessary action. In line with regulatory provisions and our commitment to discouraging such behaviour, the individual has been suspended from flying on any IndiGo flight.”

The airline acknowledged the incident, terming the behaviour “completely unacceptable”. “We strongly condemn any act that compromises the safety and dignity of our passengers and crew. Our crew acted in accordance with established standard operating procedures,” IndiGo stated.

Upon arrival, the accused passenger was handed over to security personnel. All relevant regulatory agencies have also been duly informed as per protocol.

The incident involved a passenger allegedly slapping co-traveller Hussain Ahmed Mazumdar without provocation. The video of the altercation went viral shortly after the flight landed. The accused reportedly struck Mazumdar, a resident of Cachar, Assam, while he was being escorted to his seat by flight attendants. Mazumdar was allegedly experiencing a panic attack during the flight.

IndiGo expressed its gratitude for passengers’ continued trust and reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment on all its flights.
