Nishin, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : The final match of the Asian Games 2026 is underway at the Korogi Sports Park in Nishin, where the Indian women’s cricket team faces Sri Lanka. Winning the toss, India opted to bat first, finishing their innings with an impressive total of 216 runs while losing just three wickets.
Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma gave India a blazing start, amassing 99 runs for the first wicket in just 9.6 overs. Mandhana, in particular, showcased her exceptional form, putting the Sri Lankan bowlers on the back foot with her aggressive batting. Shefali also contributed significantly, scoring 48 runs off 29 balls, including three fours and three sixes.
Even after Shefali’s departure, Mandhana continued her onslaught, reaching her half-century in just 30 balls. She ended her innings with a remarkable 79 runs off 45 deliveries, hitting seven sixes and five fours. Notably, Mandhana also crossed the milestone of 11,000 runs in international cricket, becoming the first woman in the world to achieve this feat.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, batting at number three, struggled to make a significant impact, scoring 19 runs off 17 balls before returning to the pavilion. In the closing overs, Richa Ghosh provided fireworks, remaining unbeaten on 49 runs from just 22 balls, which included six fours and three sixes. Alongside Bharti Fulmali, who scored 7 runs off 7 balls, they forged a crucial partnership, adding 53 runs for the fourth wicket in just 19 balls.
For Sri Lanka, bowlers Sugandhika Kumari, Kavisha Dilhari, and Chamudi Prabodh each took one wicket.
