Indian Stock Market Opens Flat Amid Rising Crude Oil Prices

Mumbai, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian stock market opened flat on Thursday, September 10, 2026. By 9:23 AM, the Sensex was down 36 points, or 0.05%, at 74,727.96, while the Nifty fell by 8.25 points, or 0.01%, to 23,430.00.

Early trading showed pressure on auto and consumer durable stocks, with the Nifty Auto and Nifty Consumer Durables indices leading the losses. Other sectors like Nifty India Manufacturing, Nifty Pharma, Nifty India Defense, Nifty Consumption, Nifty Healthcare, Nifty Realty, Nifty Infra, and Nifty Metal were also in the red.

Conversely, indices such as Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Oil and Gas, Nifty PSE, Nifty Energy, Nifty Private Bank, Nifty FMCG, and Nifty Energy were trading positively.

Midcap and small-cap stocks exhibited mixed performance. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was down by 114 points, or 0.18%, at 62,479, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index saw a slight increase of 18 points, reaching 20,055.

Most global markets were experiencing weakness. Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Seoul, and Jakarta all reported declines. The US markets closed lower on Wednesday, with the Dow Jones down by 0.77% and the Nasdaq technology index falling by 0.64%.

Experts noted that the market’s weakness is attributed to the Nifty falling below the resistance level of 23,500. There are concerns about further declines in the market due to deteriorating macro trends. Brent crude prices have surpassed $101 per barrel, and the yield on US 10-year bonds has risen to 4.83%, increasing the likelihood of interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve and heightening market anxieties.

Despite India’s healthy foreign exchange reserves and controlled current account deficit, prolonged crude oil prices above $100 could impact the country’s GDP growth and corporate earnings this year.
