New Delhi, August 5: The Indian Paralympic Committee (PCI) honored para-athletes and their coaches on Wednesday for their remarkable achievements at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The para-athletes delivered a historic performance, securing seven medals in Glasgow, marking India’s best showing in this event to date.
India clinched a total of seven medals in the para events at the Commonwealth Games 2026, comprising three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. The award ceremony was organized by PCI in collaboration with the M3M Foundation.
Among the honored para-athletes were Sharmila Dhankhar (gold in Women’s Shot Put F57), Shilpa Shaila (bronze in Women’s Shot Put F57), Jhandu Kumar (bronze in Para Powerlifting), Soman Rana (gold in Men’s Shot Put F57), Shubham Juyal (silver in Men’s Shot Put F57), Dilip Manadu Gavit (gold in 100 meters T47), and Mohammad Basil (silver in Men’s 100 meters T47).
The contributions of coaches and support staff were also recognized, highlighting their essential roles in guiding athletes to international success.
PCI President Devendra Jhajharia stated, “Our athletes have once again shown the world what can be achieved with determination, courage, and hard work. This historic performance is not just about the medal tally; it is a testament to the years of commitment from our athletes, coaches, and the entire support system. I sincerely thank the M3M Foundation for recognizing our champions and standing firm with the Paralympic movement. Dr. Payal Kanodia emphasized that the achievements in Glasgow reflect the courage and dedication of India’s para-athletes.
She remarked, “Every medal won in Glasgow represents more than just a sporting achievement. Behind every podium finish lies years of discipline, sacrifice, and strong guidance from coaches, families, and support teams.
