Gandhinagar, August 5: Gujarat’s Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi have warmly welcomed the athletes who represented India at the Commonwealth Games 2026. During this occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister also discussed preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030, offering Gujarat’s sports infrastructure to athletes from across the country.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel shared photos of the meeting on the social media platform X, stating, “Receiving the Commonwealth Games flag from Glasgow in Gandhinagar is a proud moment for Gujarat. The flag, formally handed over by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi during a cabinet meeting in the presence of our para-athletes, symbolizes unity. It marks the official beginning of our journey to host the CWG 2030 under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
He added, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the remarkable athletes and para-athletes who won 39 medals in Glasgow, elevating India’s stature. Their courage and passion continue to inspire us as we prepare to make CWG 2030 a historic success.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi shared images from the meeting on X, noting, “From Glasgow to Ahmedabad, the journey for the 2030 Commonwealth Games has officially begun. After returning with the Commonwealth Games flag from Glasgow, I met with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other ministers. This occasion was made even more special by the presence of Gujarat’s top athletes, who have brought pride to the state and the nation with their outstanding performances at the Commonwealth Games. As Ahmedabad prepares to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, the success of these champions reflects the spirit of sportsmanship that will define this historic journey.”
In a conversation with journalists, Harsh Sanghvi remarked, “Under PM Modi’s guidance, international-level sports infrastructure has been developed across every state in the country over the past several years. Despite several key events missing from the Commonwealth Games 2026, India performed remarkably well, finishing in fourth place. I especially want to commend the strength of our women athletes. The world has witnessed the power of Indian boxing. The Commonwealth Games 2030 will be held in Ahmedabad, and this flag was handed over to India during the closing ceremony of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Today, Gujarat’s para-athletes and the Glasgow Commonwealth delegation presented this flag to the Chief Minister.”
He emphasized, “The arrangement of Gujarat’s sports infrastructure is not limited to the youth of Gujarat alone. All athletes from across India are always welcome in Ahmedabad. Our doors are open for any athlete who wishes to utilize Gujarat’s sports facilities. We welcome players from any state in India as our brothers and sisters. This initiative is for every young person who proudly waves the Indian flag around the world. I salute all such athletes.”
He concluded, “We are all united, and together we will support young athletes from every corner of the country. There will be sports for which Gujarat has an excellent ecosystem, while others may thrive in Rajasthan or Maharashtra. The Prime Minister has made a significant decision to increase the Khelo India budget eightfold to brighten the future of all athletes.”
