New Delhi, February 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed various issues in the 131st edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat‘ on Sunday. He highlighted the contributions of Indian-origin players competing in the T20 World Cup 2026 for teams from other countries.
The Prime Minister stated, “Sports unite us. You must be watching the T20 World Cup matches. I am sure your eyes are drawn to a particular player. While the jersey belongs to a country, hearing the name brings a sense of joy, as that player is of Indian origin and represents a nation where their family has settled. They don their respective countries’ jerseys and wholeheartedly represent them on the field.”
PM Modi further noted, “The Canadian team has the highest number of Indian-origin players. The team captain, Dilpreet Bajwa, was born in Gurudaspur, Punjab. Navneet Dhaliwal hails from Chandigarh. Many names, including Harsh Thakkar and Shreyas Moa, are bringing pride to both Canada and India. Several players in the American team have emerged from India’s domestic cricket. The American team captain, Monank Patel, has played for Gujarat’s Under-16 and Under-18 teams. Saurabh from Mumbai, Harmeet Singh, and Milind Kumar from Delhi are notable players for the American team.”
The Prime Minister added, “The Oman team features several players who have previously played in different states of India. Players like Jatinder Singh, Vinayak Shukla, Karan, Jai, and Ashish are strong assets for the Oman cricket team. Indian-origin players are also making their mark in teams from New Zealand, the UAE, and Italy. Many Indian players are enhancing their country’s pride and serving as inspirations for the youth there. This is the essence of Indianness; wherever Indians go, they remain connected to their roots and contribute to the development of their adopted homeland.”
