New Delhi, April 21: The Indian Ministry of Defence has signed a significant agreement worth approximately ₹975 crore with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Private Limited. This deal, finalized on Tuesday, aims to enhance the Indian Army’s capability to breach minefields.
According to an official statement, the TRAWL assembly for T-72 and T-90 tanks is a crucial tool developed by DRDO. This advancement will significantly improve the Indian Army’s ability to navigate through mine-laden areas.
The Ministry noted that this equipment will facilitate the creation of safe pathways in regions with anti-tank mines and magnetic fuses, thereby strengthening the operational capacity of the Indian Army.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
This procurement marks a vital step towards modernizing India’s defence infrastructure and will bolster indigenous industries. It aligns with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, promoting self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
The statement also highlighted that this project will boost the MSME sector and create direct and indirect employment opportunities.
In related news, last month, the Ministry of Defence entered into a significant agreement with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the purchase of two modern mountain radars for the Indian Air Force, valued at approximately ₹1,950 crore. This deal represents a crucial move towards achieving self-reliance in defence production.
As per the Ministry’s statement released on March 31, under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, the agreement with BEL includes the procurement of two mountain radars, associated equipment, and necessary infrastructure, further enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Air Force.
