Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to Visit Germany Next Week for Strengthening Defense Cooperation

New Delhi, April 19: India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is set to embark on a three-day official visit to Germany. The primary aim of this trip is to enhance the defense partnership between the two nations. During his visit, Singh will engage in discussions with his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, and other senior government officials.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, the talks will focus on increasing collaboration in the defense industry, strengthening military-to-military engagement, and exploring opportunities in emerging fields such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and drones.

It is anticipated that both ministers will sign a Defense Industrial Cooperation Roadmap and agreements related to training cooperation in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

The Ministry of Defense stated, “This visit will provide an opportunity to review ongoing defense cooperation initiatives and identify new avenues for collaboration between the defense industries of both countries. Rajnath Singh may also meet with key representatives from the German defense industry to promote joint development and production under the Make in India initiative.”

On April 14, India and Germany held consultations at the Foreign Office in Berlin, agreeing to deepen and diversify cooperation in essential and emerging technologies, defense, industrial collaboration, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation, and development cooperation in third countries.

A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs noted that during the meeting, officials from both countries reviewed the current state of their relations and discussed ways to further strengthen the India-Germany strategic partnership.

Previously, in 2019, former Indian Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visited Germany. Following this, Boris Pistorius visited India in June 2023 for discussions with Rajnath Singh.

The Ministry of Defense emphasized, “India and Germany share a strong and multifaceted strategic partnership, grounded in a mutual commitment to democratic values, the rule of law, and a rules-based international order. In recent years, defense and security cooperation has emerged as a vital pillar of this partnership. The aim of this visit is to deepen bilateral relations and contribute to regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.”
