Glasgow, July 31: The Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow have proven to be a remarkable day for India. The country has received excellent news from the boxing arena, with five boxers reaching the finals in their respective categories, securing at least silver medals.
Mandengbam Judumani Singh made a spectacular entry into the men’s 55 kg final by defeating Namibia’s Haoseb Philip Pumulo with a decisive 5-0 score in the semifinals. Judumani’s impressive performance guarantees him a silver medal, but his eyes are set on winning gold.
Earlier, Arundhati Chaudhary secured her spot in the women’s 70 kg final by beating Wales’ Rosie Acless 4-0 in the semifinals.
Jasmin Lamboria also advanced to the women’s 57 kg final, overcoming Lesotho’s Rapelang Maselela through a referee stops contest in the semifinals.
In addition, two other Indian boxers have reached the finals in different weight categories. Ankush Panghal triumphed over Canada’s Joshua Ofori 5-0 in the semifinals of the 80 kg category, while Preeti Pawar achieved victory against Zambia’s Catherine Mwape with a similar score in the women’s 54 kg category.
Beyond boxing, there is also good news from judo. Three judokas have made it to the finals in their respective weight classes. Asmita Devi reached the women’s 48 kg final by defeating Scotland’s Summer Shaw in the semifinals. She will face Canada’s Heidi Kwach in the final. Harsh Singh secured his place in the men’s 60 kg event final by besting Australia’s Pedro Carlos Antun Neto. He will compete against Australian Joshua Katz in the final. Yamini Maurya advanced to the women’s 57 kg final after defeating South Africa’s Done Braytenbach with an ippon. She will face England’s Aselia Toprak in her final match.
All athletes reaching the finals aim to convert the assured silver medals into gold for their country.
