Indian Athletes Shine at Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Glasgow, July 31: The Indian team is performing exceptionally well at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. Friday was a remarkable day for India. In judo, the country secured two gold medals and one silver, while five boxers reached the finals, guaranteeing at least five silver medals. Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi, is also present in Glasgow, encouraging athletes and promoting the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

Athletes who won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 visited the Ahmedabad Pavilion. They praised the pavilion and the vibrant Gujarati culture showcased there.

Mirabai Chanu, who won her third consecutive gold medal in weightlifting, expressed her happiness about being there. “We are very pleased to be here. It feels great to experience Gujarat’s culture. I want to thank everyone for this opportunity,” she said.

She added, “We take pride in hosting the next Commonwealth Games in India. We will do our best to perform well and elevate our country’s name. We have done well in judo and boxing, and we need to replicate this success in other sports as well.”

Gold medalist Dilip Gavit shared his excitement about the event. “It feels amazing to be here. The Deputy Chief Minister hugged me, which made me very happy,” he said.

Dilip Gavit, a para-athlete, won the gold medal in the men’s 100 meters T47 athletics event, finishing with a remarkable time of 10.71 seconds.

Sharmila Dhankhar was also present at the event. She won the gold medal in the women’s shot put F57 event with a season-best effort of 9.81 meters, becoming India’s first Commonwealth Games para-athletics gold medalist.
