New Delhi, March 9: The Indian cricket team has claimed the T20 World Cup 2026 title. This victory marks the team’s third championship overall and their second consecutive win.
The journey to becoming world champions was not easy for India. However, a pivotal match between the group stage and the final forced the team to rethink its strategy. This revised approach strengthened the team, leading them to emerge as champions.
During the group stage, India secured victories against the USA, Pakistan, Namibia, and the Netherlands, finishing first in the group and qualifying for the Super-8. Despite reaching this stage, the team had several shortcomings that management had overlooked. An overabundance of left-handed batsmen, Abhishek’s poor performance at the top, and the slow batting of Surya and Tilak in the middle order were significant issues. Additionally, Rinku’s consistent failures in the lower order and the decision to favor Washington Sundar over Axar Patel proved detrimental.
In their first Super-8 match against South Africa, India faced a formidable opponent and suffered a 76-run defeat. This loss compelled the team to devise a strategy to address their weaknesses.
The Indian team made crucial changes to their playing XI. Sanju Samson returned, partnering with Abhishek Sharma to create a strong right-left batting combination. Ishan Kishan moved to the third position, while Tilak Verma was sent lower in the order, replacing Rinku Singh. Axar Patel returned to the squad, taking Sundar’s place.
Samson’s return bolstered the opening, as he scored 321 runs and was named Player of the Series. Tilak began to play aggressively in his new position, while Axar excelled in bowling and fielding during the semi-final and final matches.
With the revised strategy, the Indian team appeared stronger and went on to win the World Cup without losing another match after the setback against South Africa.
