New Delhi, May 6: Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, launched the website and logo for the inaugural International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit 2026 in the capital on Wednesday. He also unveiled a film related to the summit during the event, which was attended by mission heads from countries with big cat species, along with senior officials from ministries and the IBCA.
The International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) is an intergovernmental organization headquartered in India. It was established to promote the conservation of seven major big cat species, including lions, tigers, leopards, snow leopards, cheetahs, jaguars, and pumas.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav emphasized that this summit represents a significant initiative for the global conservation of big cats. He announced that India will host the first IBCA Summit on June 1, 2026, in New Delhi, with the participation of heads of state and government leaders from member and observer countries.
The summit, themed “Save Big Cats, Save Humanity, Save Ecosystems,” is expected to attract over 400 conservation experts, policymakers, scientists, agencies, and corporate representatives from around the world.
Yadav highlighted India’s achievements in big cat conservation, noting that the country has made remarkable progress through scientific management, community participation, and institutional collaboration. He cited efforts like Project Tiger as examples of successful conservation initiatives for lions, leopards, snow leopards, and cheetahs.
He stated that the IBCA was initiated in 2023 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aiming to bring together countries with big cat species on a common platform.
The minister expressed that this summit will mark a crucial milestone in global conservation diplomacy, fostering international cooperation, South-South partnerships, and collaborative efforts. A key outcome of the summit will be the “Delhi Declaration,” which will serve as a global commitment to big cat conservation.
Following the summit, technical sessions will be held on June 1-2, 2026, featuring experts and officials from various countries. Additionally, a special exhibition will showcase conservation efforts through tribal art, photography, films, and virtual reality.
During the website launch, the minister stated that this platform will play a vital role in information sharing and promoting global dialogue. Regarding the logo, he mentioned that it symbolizes the unity of all seven big cat species and the balance of nature.
In closing, he urged all countries to ensure maximum participation in the summit and invited those yet to join the IBCA to become part of this important initiative.
