India Shines with Gold at Asian Games as Shooting Team Breaks Records
India celebrates a historic gold medal in shooting at the Asian Games, with a record-breaking performance by Suruchi and Kamaljeet.

Nagoya, September 25 (Daily Kiran) : India kicked off the Asian Games on a high note, with Suruchi Inder Singh and Kamaljeet clinching a gold medal in the mixed team event of the 10-meter air pistol competition. The duo delivered an outstanding performance, setting a new Asian record with a combined score of 484.6 in the finals.
Following their remarkable achievement, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), congratulated the shooters and emphasized the need for continued efforts to secure more gold medals.
“This is a great day for Indian shooting,” Singh Deo remarked. “After a challenging start, we finally secured a gold medal. This success comes after some disappointing performances from both the men’s and women’s air teams. However, they have shown significant improvement. This gold is exceptional, marked by a new Asian record in both qualification and finals, with a clear lead of six to seven points. Such a performance in a final is unprecedented.”
He noted that in the first two days of the Games, India secured five medals, followed by three from the skeet event, and the two golds on Friday, totaling ten medals. “This is a substantial collection of medals. What we missed was the gold. In shooting, since every final starts at zero, the outcome depends on the athlete’s performance. We need to figure out how we can better support our athletes, coaches, and performance teams to achieve more gold medals.”
For Suruchi and Kamaljeet, this victory meant more than just standing atop the podium. Their score of 484.6 not only earned them gold but also etched their names in the Asian record books once again.
In addition to the gold, India also earned a silver medal in shooting on the same day. The men’s shooting team, consisting of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Neeraj Kumar, and Rudraksh Patil, showcased an impressive performance to secure silver in the men’s 50-meter rifle 3 positions team final at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery.
