India Expresses Concern Over Drone Attack on UAEs Barakah Nuclear Plant

New Delhi, May 18: India has expressed deep concern over the alleged drone attack targeting the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Indian government described the incident as a dangerous escalation of tensions and urged all parties to exercise restraint and return to diplomatic dialogue.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “India expresses deep concern regarding the attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE. Such actions are unacceptable and reflect a dangerous escalation of tensions. We call upon all parties to exercise immediate restraint and return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy.”

This response from India comes at a time when tensions in the region are rising, and international concerns about attacks on critical infrastructure, particularly nuclear facilities, are increasing. Nuclear facilities are considered highly sensitive under international security standards.

Located in the Al Dhafra region of the UAE, the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant is the first operational nuclear power plant in the Arab world and plays a crucial role in the country’s energy infrastructure. Any threat to such facilities raises global concerns regarding regional security and nuclear safety.

Local media reports indicate that a fire broke out at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant complex following the drone attack on Sunday.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office stated on X that “Abu Dhabi officials responded to a fire incident involving a generator outside the internal boundary of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, caused by the drone attack.”

The statement confirmed that there were no injuries and that there was no impact on radiological safety levels.

It added, “The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has confirmed that the fire did not affect the plant’s safety or its essential systems, and all units are operating normally.”

The statement emphasized that all precautionary measures have been taken, urging the public to obtain information only from official sources and to avoid spreading rumors or unverified information.

No information was provided regarding the origin of the drone attack. Earlier this month, the UAE reported several missiles and drones launched towards various regions of the country, allegedly from Iran.
