
New Delhi, February 5: The Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2026 saw reigning world champion Samrat Rana and World Cup final winner Suruchi Singh clinch a silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event. The host nation has maintained its dominance in the championship, achieving a total of 10 gold medals by the second day of the competition.
Left-handed shooters Rashmika Sehgal and Vanshika Chaudhary finished first and second in the women’s junior category of the 10-meter air pistol event. Priyanshi Purva and Chahak Kohla also secured a 1-2 finish in the same youth category. Their combined efforts led India to conclude the day with 10 gold, five silver, and one bronze medal. Currently, the Indian team is well ahead of Uzbekistan, which holds second place with three gold medals.
Uzbekistan’s sole gold of the day came from the 10-meter air pistol mixed team pair of Nigina Saidkulova and Mukhammed Kamalov, who defeated Samrat and Suruchi with a score of 481.3 to 479.6 in the 48-shot pair final.
Earlier, the Indian duo topped the 10-team qualification round with a total of 583 points after 60 shots. Vietnam (582, second) and Chinese Taipei (575, fourth) also advanced to the finals from this round.
In the women’s junior event, Rashmika Sehgal won the gold medal with a score of 237.9, while Vanshika Chaudhary secured the silver with 236.7 points. Indonesia’s Asyifa Rihadatul took home the bronze medal.
In the third final of the day, Priyanshi Purva won gold in the women’s youth 10-meter air pistol event with a score of 234.8, while her compatriot Chahak Kohla earned silver with 233.0 points. Shooter Liao Kerong from Chinese Taipei claimed the bronze medal.
The host team also secured two additional gold medals in team events. The trio of Rashmika, Vanshika, and Agam Grewal won the junior women’s air pistol team gold with a total score of 1,714, finishing 43 points ahead of the silver-winning Kazakhstan team.
Priyanshi, Chahak, and Shikha Saran also won gold in the women’s youth air pistol team event with a score of 1,709, again leaving Kazakhstan to settle for silver with a score of 1,627.
On Friday, mixed team pistol competitions will take place, along with rifle events, including three men’s 10-meter air rifle finals in the latter half of the day.
