Puducherry, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : India-A has taken a commanding lead against Australia-A in the first Test of their unofficial series at the Cricket Association Puducherry Siechem Ground. After scoring 334 runs in their first innings, the home team restricted Australia-A to just 171 runs, ending the second day with a significant 163-run advantage.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India-A faced early challenges, losing two wickets for just 20 runs. However, Sai Sudharsan (57) and Sheikh Rasheed (16) formed a crucial partnership, adding 58 runs for the third wicket. Despite this recovery, the team faltered again, losing five wickets for only 97 runs.
Tanush Kotian then stabilized the innings, partnering with Kumar Kushagra for a sixth-wicket stand that yielded 138 runs, pushing the score past 250. Kushagra scored an impressive 113 runs, including 12 boundaries, while Tanush contributed 69 runs. For Australia-A, Corey Rochichio led the bowling attack with four wickets, and Todd Murphy claimed three.
In response, Australia-A struggled from the outset, losing four wickets for just 40 runs. Josh Philippe and Jason Sangha attempted to rebuild with a 45-run partnership, but Philippe was dismissed for 14 runs. Sangha continued the fight, adding 41 runs with Liam Scott for the sixth wicket, but the team ultimately fell short of reaching 200 runs. Sangha scored 46 runs, featuring six boundaries, while Scott added 26.
Shams Mulani was the standout bowler for India-A, taking four wickets, while Tushar Deshpande and Tanush Kotian each claimed two. Anshul Kamboj and Praful Hing also contributed with one wicket each.
The series will consist of two Test matches followed by three One Day Internationals.
