ICC May Take Strict Action Against Pakistan for Supporting Bangladesh in T20 World Cup Dispute

New Delhi: The ongoing dispute between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the T20 World Cup has taken a new turn with Pakistan backing Bangladesh. This move has reportedly angered the ICC, which may now consider strict action against Pakistan.

Bangladesh Cricket Board had withdrawn from the T20 World Cup, citing security concerns about playing their matches in India. Following this, ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament. Pakistan’s vocal support for Bangladesh has intensified the conflict, and if unresolved, Pakistan may reconsider its participation in the event.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated that the final decision on Pakistan’s participation would be taken by the government. He accused the ICC of applying double standards, highlighting that while some countries receive flexibility in venue changes, Bangladesh was treated unfairly. Naqvi emphasized that Bangladesh is a major stakeholder and should not face such treatment.

He also questioned why ICC did not apply the same policies for Bangladesh as it did when changing venues for Pakistan and India. Naqvi clarified that PCB is accountable to the Pakistan government, not directly to ICC. With the Prime Minister currently abroad, the government will take a final call on this matter upon his return, and the board will follow that directive.

The ICC has reportedly taken Naqvi’s remarks negatively. According to reports, the ICC is considering imposing several restrictions on Pakistan, including a potential ban from the Asia Cup. Should Pakistan decide to withdraw from the T20 World Cup, the ICC may suspend all bilateral series with Pakistan, refuse to issue No Objection Certificates for foreign players in the Pakistan Super League, and exclude Pakistan from the Asia Cup.

This escalating situation highlights the complex dynamics between cricket boards and the ICC in managing international cricket events amid geopolitical sensitivities.
