Human Rights Organizations Condemn Arrest of Baloch Activist Fouzia Baloch

Quetta, April 25: Several prominent human rights organizations have strongly condemned the arrest of Baloch activist Fouzia Baloch by Pakistani police on Saturday. Fouzia Baloch is a member of the Baloch Unity Committee (BUC).

Her arrest comes at a time when her brother, Dadshah Baloch, has reportedly gone missing. Allegations state that on April 21, Pakistani security forces abducted him from their home. Since then, there has been no trace of him. The family attempted to file a complaint with the police, but reports indicate that the police refused to accept their complaint.

According to the BUC, Fouzia had arrived at the Karachi Press Club on Saturday with her family to hold a press conference addressing her brother’s disappearance. During this event, police took her into custody and sent her to an undisclosed location.

The Baloch Unity Committee has demanded the immediate release of both Fouzia and her brother. The organization has also called on international human rights bodies to hold Pakistan accountable.

The human rights department of the Baloch National Movement, known as ‘Pank’, described this incident as part of a broader strategy to silence the voices of affected families and obstruct their access to justice.

Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) stated that public spaces for dissent in Pakistan are rapidly diminishing. Families seeking answers about their missing relatives face intimidation, and their fundamental rights are being stripped away.

Earlier on Thursday, the Baloch Students Organization Azad also alleged that Pakistani officials are attempting to normalize the abduction of Baloch women. Spokesperson Sholan Baloch claimed that nearly two dozen Baloch women have been forcibly taken from Quetta, Karachi, Khuzdar, Kech, Awaran, and other areas this year alone.

He alleged that these women are being subjected to torture and that there is an effort to undermine the Balochistan movement through false narratives.
