Sringeri, April 19 : Rubbishing former CM and JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy’s charges, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said innocent people have not been arrested in connection with the violent incidents in Hubballi. “No innocent persons have been arrested. The arrests have been made based on evidence,” he told reporters here. Kumaraswamy had alleged that innocent people were being arrested in connection with Hubballi incidents. When asked about the Opposition leaders accusing him of turning Rama Rajya into a Ravana Rajya, Bommai said, “They are entitled to have their own interpretations. It is not important as to what the opposition leaders say, it is the opinion of the people that matters.” Responding to the Opposition’s view that the CM has adopted a soft stand on communal issues, Bommai said the government has acted tough on the Hubballi and Shivamogga incidents. “FIR has been registered in the Santosh Patil suicide case. Action has been taken in the Dharwad fruit vendor case. There was no delay in any of the cases. Even in the Police Recruitment case we have initiated action. What more do you want?” he asked. Bommai said he has come to have a darshan of Sringeri Sharadamba and pray for the welfare of the state. Mutts play a significant role in maintaining peace and harmony in the society, he said. “Self conscience, a sense of compassion and fear of sin is still alive among the people due to the responsible functioning of these mutts,” he said speaking at the Mahakumbh Abhisheki Mahotsav of Hariharapura Sri Adi Shankaracharya Sharada Lakshminarasimha Peeta. “We should build a society with character. We should adopt at least a bit of ideals and principles of Adi Shankaracharya,” Bommai said. The power of Adi Shankaracharya has ted the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Similarly the seer of Sharada Mutt is spreading the ideals of social harmony, Bommai said. BDN SHK1937
