Thiruvananthapuram, August 2: The Kerala government has postponed the State Eligibility Test (SET), originally scheduled for August 2, due to continuous heavy rainfall and the resulting flood and landslide conditions. The announcement was made by the office of the Higher Education Minister on Saturday, stating that a new date for the examination will be notified later.
The government has urged all candidates to regularly check the official website for updates related to the exam. Currently, no revised date has been announced.
Normal life in the state has been severely disrupted due to the ongoing heavy rainfall. Flooding and landslides in several districts have obstructed transportation, and many areas have lost connectivity. In light of these conditions and the difficulties faced by candidates in terms of safety and travel, the decision to postpone the exam was made.
Meanwhile, the torrential rains in Kerala have caused widespread devastation. As of Saturday, three people have died in various incidents of landslides and building collapses, while one woman remains missing. Thousands have been relocated to safer places and relief camps.
The districts most affected include Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Kottayam. Pathanamthitta recorded over 330 mm of rainfall, causing the Pamba River to swell and submerge several areas. Many roads have been flooded, power supply has been disrupted, and large-scale rescue and relief operations are underway by the NDRF, police, and fire rescue teams.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for several districts, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, advising people to stay away from riverbanks and landslide-prone areas.
