New Delhi, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Rainfall swept through several areas of New Delhi on September 11, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the capital. The IMD predicts more rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in the coming hours.
In northern Delhi, light to moderate rain is expected, while other parts of the city may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. This weather event arrives just one day before the BRICS leaders’ summit is set to begin.
For September 12, the IMD forecasts light rain with thunderstorms in the morning, followed by another spell of light to moderate rain in the evening. This rainfall is anticipated to provide some relief from the current heat wave.
On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Delhi reached 36.6 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures are expected to drop below 33 degrees Celsius starting Saturday.
Meteorological experts attribute the current weather conditions to the shifting monsoon trough in the region. This trough is expected to move southward, with easterly winds likely to dominate from Friday.
Over the weekend, intermittent moderate rain may occur in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan. However, the rain is expected to be limited to specific areas, affecting only 30-40 percent of the region.
As Delhi prepares to host the BRICS summit on September 12 and 13, numerous world leaders and delegations will arrive in the capital. The event will take place at Bharat Mandapam and will feature an exhibition titled “India Innovates,” a family photograph, a tree-planting ceremony, and a grand dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
