Dairy Production Transforms Rural Economy in Uttar Pradesh, Empowering Women Entrepreneurs

Lucknow, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : In Uttar Pradesh, dairy production is becoming a vital source of income and self-reliance for rural women. Currently, 394,000 women across 7,220 villages in 42 districts are involved in this sector, collectively producing approximately 1.07 million liters of milk daily. Notably, 72,669 women have achieved millionaire status through their dairy ventures, contributing to a total business turnover of ₹5,839 crores and a net profit of ₹133 crores.

During a recent meeting of the Food Processing Department and the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya emphasized the importance of dairy farming as a means to enhance women’s income in villages. He instructed officials to extend these initiatives to all 75 districts, ensuring that more women, farmers, and youth are engaged in dairy programs. A special awareness campaign will be launched at the village level to inform eligible individuals about the opportunities available.

Maurya also directed that the registration, application, and documentation processes be simplified, ensuring that support is readily available for those in need. The meeting highlighted the involvement of various milk producer companies, such as Balini Milk Producer Company Limited, which has 95,100 members across 1,440 villages in seven districts, producing 250,000 liters of milk daily. Other companies, including Kashi Milk Producer Company and Samarthya Milk Producer Company, are similarly engaged with thousands of members and significant daily milk production.

The Deputy Chief Minister pointed out that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women’s empowerment and self-reliance, aiming for one crore millionaire women in India. Dairy production not only provides regular income for women but also strengthens family economies and creates new employment opportunities in villages.

Maurya concluded by stating that the success of women in dairy farming demonstrates the significant potential for economic self-reliance among rural women. The government is committed to expanding this model to include more women, thereby enhancing income levels, bolstering village economies, and accelerating Uttar Pradesh’s progress toward becoming a developed state.
