Kiran News | Raipur, 16 August : Due to a new system developing in the Bay of Bengal, the monsoon has become active again in Chhattisgarh. After a humid day, heavy rains with thunder brought relief to Raipur last night. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in Bastar, Narayanpur, and Kanker districts today. Additionally, a yellow alert for lightning and thunderstorms has been issued for Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Surguja, and districts of Bastar division.
According to the Meteorological Department, all divisions of the state have received moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours. Some areas of Durg and Bastar divisions have experienced heavy rain. Similar weather conditions are expected on Saturday as well. Following Friday night’s rain, the department has predicted the possibility of heavy rain in Raipur and several other districts. An alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in different parts of the state, and such conditions may continue for the next week.
Continuous rain has also increased the water level in the Sikasar Dam of Gariaband district. Currently, the reservoir’s water level has reached 193.97 meters cubic, marking the first time this monsoon season that the reservoir is at 97.51 percent capacity. Coastal villages have been alerted, and villagers are being urged to remain cautious.
On Friday, Raipur recorded the highest temperature in the state at 33.1 degrees Celsius, while Rajnandgaon saw the lowest at 20 degrees Celsius. The weather in Bilaspur remained normal with a maximum temperature of 32.3 degrees and a minimum of 26.6 degrees Celsius.
