Chandigarh, August 10: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stated on Sunday that the sacred event of Cow Katha and Cow Service, held in the holy land of Samana in Punjab’s Patiala district, is a testament to India’s rich spiritual and eternal tradition.
This ceremony, dedicated to the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, represents a remarkable and unique fusion of faith, service traditions, and our shared cultural heritage.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Saini noted that before 2014, Haryana had only 200 cow shelters with an annual budget of just 2 crore rupees. Thanks to government efforts, the number of cow shelters has now increased to 650, with their budget soaring to a record 600 crore rupees. Currently, over 400,000 stray animals are being cared for with complete reverence and respect in these shelters.
He mentioned that to ensure the comfort of the animals, large sheds and solar energy plants have been established in 350 cow shelters. Additionally, to promote cow conservation, the one percent stamp duty on land registration for new cow shelters has been completely waived.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that the Haryana government has launched a comprehensive campaign to protect youth from social evils like drug addiction. Strict action is being taken against drug traffickers. While the youth in Punjab are rapidly falling victim to drug abuse due to the government’s neglect, Haryana has established 2,000 sports centers to connect young people with sports, where nearly 400,000 youths practice daily. This sports policy has led to Haryana athletes winning seven gold medals out of a total of 39 medals for India at the recent Commonwealth Games.
He proudly stated that five of these seven gold medals were won by daughters of Haryana, bringing pride to both the state and the nation on the global stage.
