Harry Brook Praises Joe Roots Exceptional Performance in ODI Victory

Cardiff, July 17: England showcased a remarkable performance by defeating India by four wickets in the second ODI match. This victory equalized the series at 1-1. Joe Root emerged as the hero for the English team, scoring an unbeaten 99 runs. Captain Harry Brook lauded Root’s contribution.

After the match, Brook praised the impressive comeback by England’s bowlers. He stated, “I thought it was a fantastic effort. After 30 overs, their score was 180 for 3, and it seemed they would set a big total. For a while, Sam Curran and Will Jacks bowled excellently together. I felt they managed both ends very well. To bowl them out for 60 runs at the end was remarkable.”

Discussing Root’s outstanding innings, the English captain emphasized the valuable lessons young players could learn from the experienced batsman. He remarked, “He is an incredible player. You can learn a lot from him even in the changing room. He is a great player to have around. He always scores runs when they are most needed.”

Brook advised young batsmen to learn the art of rotating the strike from Root. He noted, “Yes, he has been one of the best in the world at rotating the strike for many years. I remember an innings from a few years ago where he scored 100 runs with just three boundaries, which is impressive. He is exceptional at rotating the strike.”

In pursuit of the 234-run target set by India, England did not have a strong start. Ben Duckett was dismissed without scoring, while Jacob Bethell fell to Prasidh Krishna for just four runs. Captain Harry Brook also departed after scoring 16 runs. In this challenging situation, Joe Root took charge, delivering an excellent performance and anchoring the innings. He built crucial partnerships with Sam Curran, Jos Buttler, and Will Jacks, guiding England to their target. However, Root fell just one run short of his century, hitting nine boundaries in his innings of 99 runs.
