Mumbai, April 15: Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri made a special appearance at a training session of the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. During this event, MI captain Hardik Pandya presented Chhetri with an MI jersey.
Chhetri engaged in conversations with several MI players, including Mahela Jayawardene, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar, sharing insights from his illustrious career.
In a video shared by MI, Chhetri expressed, “I haven’t been to the stadium many times, but every time I come, it’s an incredible feeling. It’s great to see the game from a different perspective here. I wish Mumbai Indians and the fans all the best, not just for this match but for the entire tournament.”
The start of IPL 2026 has been promising for MI, as they won their first match of the season for the first time since 2012. However, they have struggled since, currently sitting ninth in the standings with three losses out of four matches.
In their last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), MI faced an 18-run defeat. Former captain Rohit Sharma had to retire hurt due to an injury during the game. Sharneef Rutherford showcased a stellar performance, scoring 71 runs off 31 balls, including nine sixes, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.
Mumbai Indians’ next match is on Thursday against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium. A win is crucial for MI, although it won’t be an easy task given Punjab Kings’ current form.
